2018 McDonald Cadet Leadership Conference

Blogged by Timothy Collins on November 15, 2017.

The University of Oxford is looking for one Oxford University undergraduate student to participate in the 2018 McDonald Cadet Leadership Conference (MCLC), which provides undergraduate participants with a unique leadership experience.  The McDonald Conference for Leaders of Character invites renowned speakers and analytical, visionary student-leaders from the international community and across the United States. The conference will unite emerging global leaders with preeminent world leaders in a partnership struggling with the most pressing issues worldwide.

The conference was made possible by a generous endowment from Robert and Diane McDonald. Op-eds were published in the New York Times from each student group from the 2015 cohort.

The 6th Annual McDonald Conference for Leaders of Character will be held from 21 March-25 March 2018 in the grounds of the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York, USA. Participants will form small teams mentored by a world-class leader during the conference. The MCLC sets the foundation for relationships to continue for years after the conference concludes.

This year the MCLC theme is: Making Ripples: Character, Ideas, and Teams

Mission

Top undergraduate student leaders from diverse backgrounds are to participate in a team-based, experiential and analytical exercise that bolsters leadership skills, fosters critical thinking and collaboration, and develops potential strategies for addressing pressing global issues.

Participants will also form a cohort held together by the West Point Leadership Center and its Facebook page. This will facilitate continued interaction with their cohort as participants graduate and assume leadership roles in the world. The MCLC will present an intensive leadership development experience crafted by the faculty of the world’s premier leader development institution, the United States Military Academy at West Point. Guided by meaningful pre-work before the conference, intense one-on-one development with Academy faculty, small group interaction, and mentoring with their world-class leader, undergraduate participants will emerge better prepared to excel as leaders at their institutions and in the world. Panel discussions will provide analysis and insight into the global topic areas and issues.

The McDonald Cadet Leadership Conference will pay for an airfare to and from the conference, as well as accommodation, transportation and meals during the conference for the selected candidate.
