How to advertise your vacancies

The Careers Service’s CareerConnect vacancy and events database can assist you in recruiting students. It's easy to advertise your vacancy on CareerConnect and what's more:

  • It's free
  • It can be accessed by all our registered under- and post-graduates, plus research staff
  • Alumni read our web site as well
  • It can be for a permanent or a temporary (eg an internship) role
  • It's automated and tracked
  • We can help you

New employers will need to register on our CareerConnect site - but while you're waiting for us to quickly check and approve you, go ahead and post your vacancy. You'll find the form very straight-forward, some of the obvious fields are required, but many are there if you want to complete them - the more information you give the better!

Students, who are registered on our site, may have set up instant alerts - for example, they may be looking for vacancies in "Accountancy" or "Teaching" - if your vacancy triggers their alert then they'll get an email the moment your job is accepted and posted.

You can also choose to allow students to apply directly, through our system, to you - you'll tick a box and they'll see an "Apply online" button. They click this button and send you their CV and a cover letter. We can monitor this and perhaps provide advice to help you change the targeting of your promotion.

Unpaid Internships

Oxford University Careers Service endeavours to ensure compliance with the requirements under the National Minimum Wage Act and therefore does not advertise unpaid work experience or internships other than for:

•       Short term work experience placements (maximum of 4 weeks) which involve no more than 40 hours work per week; and
•       Voluntary work with a charity, voluntary organisation, an associated fund-raising organisation, or a statutory body.

We are pleased to advertise unpaid volunteering and work-shadowing opportunities that comply with the criteria set out above.  We review all submitted vacancies before they are made available to students on our web site and may check with any potential employer if the position on any opportunity appears unclear.

Please see http://www.bis.gov.uk/policies/employment-matters/rights/nmw or call HMRC on 0800 917 2368 for further information on the national minimum wage.
