ManCon & Presentation Workshop for Researchers

Blogged by Mark McHugh on September 7, 2017.
  • When: Monday 25 September from 16:30 – 19:30
  • Where: Keble College

Are you a DPhil student, postdoc or scholar and want to learn more about management consulting? Are you eager to learn how to present with confidence?

This interactive workshop, led jointly by the McKinsey Team and the National Theatre’s Theatreworks trainers, will give the participants the chance to take part in an interactive case study, and also to explore and develop your presentation skills.

The 3-hour session will focus on two parts:

Case study

Our case study is designed and run especially for PhDs by McKinsey PhDs. This problem-solving workshop will give you the opportunity to:

  • Network with McKinsey consultants to learn about what our consultants do day-to-day
  • Learn problem-solving skills that will help you in your academic work, as well as other job applications
  • Be guided through the McKinsey application and interview process

Presenting with confidence

Designed and led by the  National Theatre’s Theatreworks trainers, this session will help explore individual presence, presentation and impact. It will give participants the skills, tools and techniques to engage effectively with colleagues and potential clients, improve individual effectiveness and to deliver professional and engaging presentations.

Participants will come away with:

  • The ability to harness their own personality, presence and purpose to affect a group
  • An insight into what makes people interesting and engaging to listen to
  • Increased confidence in communicating to an audience
  • An understanding of physical presence and body language
  • Improved use of voice and breathing
  • Active listening skills and techniques for concentration and relaxation

The event will be held on Monday 25 September from 16:30 – 19:30 and followed by networking drinks until 20:30. Expect a fun, practical and stimulating experience!
