Myths and Realities of Academia: panel event

Blogged by Julia Hilton on October 31, 2017.
  • When: Tuesday 7 November, 13.00-14.00 – over lunch.
  • Where:  The Careers Service

The ‘Myths and Realities of Academia Panel’ invites ALL those considering an academic career (undergraduates, Masters, PhD students, researchers and alumni all welcome) to hear from a panel of early- to mid-career academics about how they navigated their route in, their day-to-day roles, how they manage a work-life balance, and what sort of opportunities they feel they have for progression. There will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions and generate discussion on the various aspects of being an academic and the pros and cons of entering this popular profession.

This session is part of our Insight into Academia careers programme. ‘Insight into Academia’ is essentially a series of informal seminars and ‘conversations’, exploring opportunities for an academic career within and beyond the UK, covering important decisions along the way and what it takes to thrive as an academic. The final panel is TBC but currently Dr Helen Swift (MML) is confirmed as attending along with Dr Sam Brewitt-Taylor (History).

No need to book, but please note spaces will be allocated on a ‘first-come, first served’ basis.
