Starting the process

What is important to me? What do I have to offer? How do I find out?
A useful starting point may be to have a confidential discussion with a careers adviser, or to attend one of the Career Pathfinder workshops designed especially for research staff. Both of these will help you take stock of your current position by thinking about your strengths, abilities, interests, motivations and values.

Other tools to help you include:

  • Prospects Planner An online careers guidance program, which helps clarify career ideas and suggests types of occupations requiring a minimum of a first degree
  • The Windmills Virtual Career Coach An online coaching program providing a collection of exercises and activities to help you review and manage your career
