Volunteering
As well as giving you all the usual benefits of work experience, volunteering can be very personally satisfying. Experience of voluntary work is often essential for entry into some sectors, such as conservation, social work, and the charity sector.
It doesn't need to take much time! Even a few hours in the evenings or weekends can, over a period of time, demonstrate commitment and initiative, and give you practical experience that can be useful in any job.
Volunteering opportunities
- Opportunities are advertised year-round on CareerConnect.
- Join a student society and become part of a bigger picture at OxHub.
- Many volunteering opportunities are organised locally. Search the web for local volunteering opportunities, or check the phone book. Oxfordshire Community and Voluntary Action (OCVA) is the is the main umbrella body for the voluntary and community sector in Oxfordshire.

- Prospects lists many volunteering opportunities.
- For advice on finding volunteer opportunities abroad, see our Travelling section.
Our Resource centre stocks a range of useful guides to volunteering, both in the UK and internationally.
