The Summer Internship Programme 2018 – Germany preview!

Blogged by Phoebe Benfield on 05/12/2017.

Following from the successes of our previous years of internships with the Internship Office, we are excited to announce a selection of some of the international internships we will be offering on the 2018 Summer Internship Programme.

Remember, you will not be able to view or apply for these international internships until they are published on CareerConnect on 15 January 2018 (UK opportunities will be posted at the later date of 20 February), but in the meantime we will be giving you updates on some of the opportunities we have secured for you, and the variety of countries which host these internships.

In the past, we have offered internships in German cities including Berlin and Munich, covering projects such as organising events for an NGO, running a summer camp and teaching, and research for a Volcano Science Group. This year sees the return of a number of research and archival library internships, as well as new opportunities in the energy and law sectors. Details of what we have so far are below.

Discovergy GmbH:  Big Data Product Development Internship

Discovergy offers energy solutions to enable clients to monitor and take control of their energy consumption and production. During this internship, the intern will work on a specific project which could range from developing a system that extracts useful data and processes it in a unified format, to coming up with innovative ways to display data on the design/front end.

This internship is open to finalists and postgraduates in the Mathematical, Physical and Life Science disciplines.

TNG Technology Consulting GmbH: Internship in Software Development

TNG Technology Consulting are a consulting partnership which focus on information technology. Using innovative ideas and state-of-the-art tools to solve customers’ strategic or routine IT problems, this organisation are looking for new interns to program in the Ideas Lab, to work on the development of new plugins, or on the further development of internal systems.

This internship is open to all years and subject areas, however would be best suited to a Computer Science, Mathematics or Physics student in particular.

Herzog August Bibliothek Wolfenbüttel: Research Internship

The German Literature Archive Marbach, the Klassik Stiftung Weimar and the Herzog August Library Wolfenbüttel collect, preserve, and provide access to sources that are crucial to the study of German literary and intellectual traditions, and their research focus is devoted to studying the long-term transformations of cultural heritage in Germany. The intern will support the work of the research departments and one of the research association’s projects during a one month stay at Herzog August Library. The program aims to provide students from around the world with the opportunity to apply their skills in a professional internship setting, helping them to gain archival and library work experience.

This internship is open only to students at masters or doctoral level in a Humanities subject.

Kulturino: Teaching and Activities Internship

Commonly referred to as ‘Kulturino’, Europäische Projektwerkstatt Kultur im ländlichen Raum is a not-for-profit organisation, active and strong in the field of rural development and cultural education. Always striving to strengthen democratic structures, effective participation and social inclusion, this organisation has a strong focus on children and young adults. As an intern you will be an English Tutor/Activity Leader, providing camp attendees with as many interesting, funny and entertaining English activities as possible (sports, creative, artistic, artisan, cooking, etc.) There is also the opportunity to supervise an ongoing project of your making (past projects have been a short film).

This internship is open to all years studying any subject.

Remember: you will not be able to view or apply for ANY of these internships until 15 January 2018.
