The Society of Young Publishers is an organisation open to anyone, of any age, interested in publishing or a related trade – or who is hoping to be soon. Run by a team of dedicated volunteers, its aim is to assist, inform and encourage anyone trying to break into the publishing industry or progress within it.
Applications are now open to join that team of volunteers. There are 4 Student Representative positions available and Oxford SYP hope to recruit two from each of the universities, Oxford University and Oxford Brookes.

'In fact, to illustrate this it might be worth me saying that this year my co-chair and I recruited two full-time Oxford University undergraduates to work as Events Officers and a part-time MA student to work as our Diversity & Inclusion Officer, in addition to the dedicated student liaison roles which were filled by Brookes Publishing MA students.' April Peake, Oxford SYP committee and Commissioning Editor at Bloomsbury.
Volunteering with the SYP is a great way to gain experience that is relevant to publishing in particular but which is also transferrable to journalism.
'Since the annual autumn conference alternates between Oxford and London - and Oxford is due to host it in 2021 - Oxford SYP will be recruiting a larger committee than usual this year because we will need a Conference team of two Co-Captains and four Officers, explains April.
April will a panellist at the two publishing talks coming up in Michaelmas Term; she will be explaining the benefits of getting involved with the SYP then:
