Previous experience

Madalena studied Natural Sciences at Cambridge University, specialising in Cognitive Neuroscience. After graduating, she joined the Champalimaud Research Centre in Lisbon where she worked first as a Research Assistant and later as a PhD student. Her research combined cellular, systems, and computational approaches to understand how neurochemicals such as serotonin regulate learning and decision-making. After postdoctoral work at the University of Oxford, Madalena moved into Careers. Beyond science, Madalena has also trained in Business and Management, having completed a master's alongside her neuroscience research.

In her current role as a Careers Adviser, Madalena is the Careers Lead for Science, Engineering, Technology & Healthcare. She also leads on careers support for students with visible and non-visible disabilities.

Colleges & departments

Madalena works with the Department of Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Clinical Neurosciences and Experimental Psychology. She is also the link careers adviser for Oriel, Pembroke, St Anne's, and Wadham Colleges.
