Research Staff and DPhil students at Oxford University... the Michaelmas term careers fairs are open to you!

Engaging directly with recruiters at our careers fairs offers a unique opportunity to explore a range of roles and gain a deeper understanding of the companies that interest you. While many of our participating employers are here to discuss graduate training schemes, they’re also eager to connect with experienced research students and staff about specialised roles within their organisations. Take the time to review the list of attending companies, pinpoint those that align with your career aspirations, and make sure to visit them at the fair. If you're unable to attend, reach out to set up a one-on-one conversation at a later time.

Anyone with a CareerConnect account can register for the fairs and pre-fair sessions. Oxford researchers who do not have a CareerConnect account, will first have to register for the platform.

  • Securing a Career in Consulting: How to ace the application process - Pre-fair talk with Newton, 11:30 - 12:00, at the Examination Schools. Consulting is one of the most fiercely competitive and highly sort after industries for graduates, but it is hard to know how to prepare for applications. In this talk our consultants will equip you with essential insights and techniques to excel in the competitive consulting application process. We will delve into effective strategies for tackling estimation questions, case studies, and numerical tests. Additionally, you’ll receive invaluable interview tips to help you stand out.   • Is small beautiful? The pros and cons of starting your career in a boutique consultancy - Pre-fair talk with Pragmatix Advisory, 10:00 - 10:30, at the Examination Schools. In this session, you will hear from a serial managing director of small consultancies and recent graduate recruits about their experiences – in economics consultancy and policy research consultancy. There will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions in the session and afterwards.

  • Finding Scientific and Technical Internships, 09:30 - 10:00, at the Examination Schools. An overview of the many ways to gain experience and secure internships in the science and technology sector, including opportunities in university labs and research institutes.

  • Who are you and what do you do?! Pre-fair talk with Softwire, 10:00 - 10:30, at the Examination Schools. Gain an overview of Softwire's work culture, as well as exploring their recruitment process.

• Careers in Computing Fair. Thursday 31 October 2024. Exhibitors from 15:00-17:30. At the Mathematical Institute, Andrew Wiles Building, OX2 6G

• Jobs for Mathematicians Fair. Tuesday 19 November 2024. Exhibitors from 16:00-18:00. At the Mathematical Institute, Andrew Wiles Building, OX2 6G

As well as Oxford University researchers, the fairs are open to all current Oxford students and alumni.
