Promoting your organisation

Below are some of the ways in which you can promote your organisation at Oxford.

The Oxford recruitment market is very crowded. Last year there were more opportunities promoted on our vacancy system, than there were students leaving Oxford to enter work. So new entrants to this crowded market need to find ways to raise their profile to gain recognition. It can take two to three years to build a recruitment profile and programme at Oxford.

Two recent examples of organisations that have built their strategies around building their brand recognition at Oxford:

  1. A blue chip major resources company had been recruiting a handful from Oxford each year and sought our help in creating a programme. They booked to attend several careers fairs, ran events in the relevant departments, sponsored one or two learning development programmes, and took ads in our Oxford Guide to Careers. This year, having established themselves as an employer of choice, all of the Oxford students they made offers to accepted without hesitation.
  2. A small new professional services firm with no recruitment history at Oxford came to a fair, agreed to speak on relevant panels, sponsored a student society and ran skills sessions for students at the Careers Service. This year, they offered two Oxford students a job.

Engaging with the Oxford University Careers Service

Our mission is to enable students to make well informed decisions about their career. As part of this, we are actively exploring ways to help students learn about organisations’ approaches to sustainability. Upon registration on our CareerConnect system, employers are asked details of their sustainability credentials.

We recommend that employers who are interested in engaging with us read the Understanding Oxford briefing, which details the university structure, its terms, and a look at the student population.

Organisations intending to take advantage of a number of opportunities to engage with students can benefit from becoming members of our Employer Engagement Network. Membership offers a wide range of benefits, including targeted communications to students interested in your industry sector, first refusal rights on panels and skills sessions, guaranteed space at our sellout fairs, and discounts on other activities.
