Ben Gurion University of the Negev - The Book Of Legends And Rabbinic Literature Internship, Israel (SIP) 

One of the most influential books in Israeli culture is "the Book of Legends" edited by Bialik and Ravnitzky. In this book, the authors exposed the readers to the richness of rabbinic literature and created a bridge between the rabbinic era and modern Hebrew literature. In this research, we will read, using DH knowledge the Book of Legends, and compare it with the original Talmudic text. By doing that we will be able to say something about the idea or image of rabbinic culture and values that the editors wanted to preserve or hide. 

Ben Gurion University of the Negev - Computational Vision Internship, Israel (SIP) 

The Interdisciplinary Computational Vision Lab was founded in 2006 as one of the core labs in the Computer Science department at Ben-Gurion University. Loyal to its name, the lab is an interdisciplinary facility where research focuses on computational vision but at the same time spans various aspects of vision sciences, including theoretical computer vision, human perception, and visual psychophysics, visual neuroscience, and applied machine vision. Our goal is to contribute to the understanding of biological (and in particular, human) vision and at the same time explore its theoretical foundations and practical applications to machine vision. 

Ben Gurion University of the Negev - Hematopoietic Stem Cell Research Internship, Israel (SIP) 

BGU is a leading multi-disciplinary research University in the Southern part of Israel, known for its' scientific innovation, cross-disciplinary and applied research. Hematopoietic Stem Cells (HSCs) are the source of blood and immune cells. We study their basic biology and possible applications. Direct-reprogramming, Leukemia-models, Alternative-splicing, and Immune-stimulation are ongoing projects. The intern will join the practical research at the lab. 

Ben Gurion University of the Negev - Psychological Computer Laboratory Based On Social Interactions In An Human-Avatar Network Internship, Israel (SIP) 

BGU is a leading multi-disciplinary research University in the Southern part of Israel, known for its' scientific innovation, cross-disciplinary and applied research. 

Identifying and predicting the emergence of psychological and social situations is treated mathematically, focusing on hazards that may arise in this interaction. Emotional conditions of individuals, represented by an Avatar/Bot that reflects each individual’s character, are evaluated during spontaneous interaction among a group of Avatars/Bots, and, may be analyzed, by using machine learning procedures.

The intern will be part of the Jewish-Arab team that composes the first-ever textbook designated to Israeli students that co-teach Modern Standard Arabic and Colloquial Palestinian Arabic. 

Cold War History Research Center, Cold War History Research Internship, Budapest, Hungary (SIP) 

The Cold War History Research Center in Budapest is a leading research institution, founded as the first non-profit organization in East-Central Europe in the field of contemporary history. The main mission of the Center has been transforming the previous one-sided approach based primarily on Western sources on Cold War history, finally into a real international discipline through the systematic exploration of the once top-secret documents found in the archives in the former Soviet Union and the Eastern Bloc countries.   

Interns will have the opportunity to learn about and contribute to the expanding knowledge of the history of the Cold War. Throughout the internship, various assignments will be given to further exploration into the scholarly research of the history of the Cold War.

Perm State University is offering six-week scientific research internships to 14 students in the following areas: 
- Dynamics of Liquids with Complex Rheology: Convective Instability and Entropy Factor. (2-3 interns)

Russian language lessons are usually planned only for the first week (adaptation and orientation week) of the internship for all interns. The Contested Histories project is a multi-year initiative intended to address controversies over statues, memorials, street names and other representations of disputed historical legacies in public spaces. The objective of the Contested Histories project is to provide decision-makers, policy planners, educators, and other stakeholders with a set of case studies, best practices and guidelines for addressing historical contestations in an effective and responsible manner. 

Perm State University, Museum, Archaeology And Cultural Research Internship, Russia (SIP) 

Perm State University is offering challenging six-week internship opportunities to current matriculated students of University of Oxford:

1) Museum and Archaeology Study Internship

Perm University History Museum has existed since 1973 and possesses rich museum collections that have been carefully picked and classified for more than 100 years, exceeding 50,000 pieces. The internship at the Museum includes the following types of activities: attribution of old printed books in Latin, Old German, Greek and English; attribution of archaeological collections; digitizing and creating 3D models of exhibits, printing and publishing the results with the use of the SketchFab platform in collaboration with the Centre for Digital Humanities at Perm University; participation in the archaeological excavations of the ancient Iron Age settlement of Perm (camping); mastering the methods of field archaeological research in practice; attribution and cameral treatment of excavation samples; development and implementation of the project as part of experimental archaeology. 

2) Cultural Diversity: Russian Experience

The project of the Department of History and Archaeology is devoted to the concept of traditional values in the context of globalization. The research team seeks to analyse value shifts in different societies and to reveal the role of different minority groups in reshaping the identities in society. Therefore, by speaking about the Russian case of cultural diversity, we can problematize the role of different social and political actors in the understanding of what it means to be Russian or to live in Russia. The interns will work with Perm regional and Perm city organizations to accumulate information about the practices of multicultural and other practices of diversity (for example, learn about the problems of migrant children in schools, rights of children and people with disabilities, etc.) and will participate in a summer school on the issue with Russian students. The presentation of the results of their work will take place during the Summer School.  Contacts with Perm region organizations of different groups with special needs (women’s organizations, organizations of people with disabilities, etc.). 

Klassik Stiftung Weimar, Archival Research Intern, Germany (SIP) 

The Klassik Stiftung Weimar is one of the largest and most significant cultural institutions in Germany, with more than 20 museums as well as literary and art collections. Its research activities are based on the cultural heritage which is preserved and scientifically classified in its museums and historic buildings, the Duchess Anna Amalia Library and the Goethe and Schiller Archives. The interns will be supporting the work of the research projects that have been initiated as part of the Marbach Weimar Wolfenbüttel Research Association. Universidad de Piura, Research Internship At The Medicine School (Antimicrobial Resistance Project), Peru (SIP) 

Bacterial resistance is a global problem with a high impact on health. WHO projections indicate that, in 2050, deaths caused by multidrug resistant bacteria (MDR) will exceed those caused by cancer.  

The intern will contribute to the molecular determination of the carbapenems resistance genes, will evaluate the conjugation capacity of the resistance-associated plasmids and will determine the genomic characteristics of selected strains, by means of ILUMINA sequencing. At the end of the internship, the intern will have advanced knowledge of laboratory techniques for the study of bacterial resistance and bacterial genomic sequencing analysis. 

Universidad de Piura, Research Internship At The Medicine School (In Vitro Determination Of The Antitumor Activity), Peru (SIP) 

The intern will participate in the project "In vitro determination of the antitumor activity of inhibitors of the BCL2 family of proteins in combination with the first generation protein tyrosine kinase inhibitors for non-small cell lung cancer and hepatocarcinoma". In this project the participant will develop cell culture skills and proliferation and apoptosis assays, as well as in structural biology techniques. The student at the end of his internship in the laboratory will obtain as a product the following: You will get the half maximal inhibitory concentration of each drug, known as IC50; You will model the problem protein and get the molecular docking of the protein-drug interaction. 

Anahuac, Sustainable Development Internship In A Mayan Rural Community (Education, Clean Energy, And Tourism), Mexico (SIP)

Living Reefs Foundation is an organisation leading coral restoration efforts in Bermuda; its work addresses globally recognised biological and economic limitations in coral restoration, and it uses coral gardening in previously damaged areas as its testing tool. We are looking for interns in Bermuda to assist in the development of sustainable and scalable techniques in coral culture, with potential application worldwide.

The Interdisciplinary Computational Vision Lab was founded in 2006 as one of the core labs in the Computer Science department at Ben-Gurion University. Loyal to its name, the lab is an interdisciplinary facility where research focuses on computational vision but at the same time spans various aspects of vision sciences, including theoretical computer vision, human perception, and visual psychophysics, visual neuroscience, and applied machine vision. Our goal is to contribute to the understanding of biological (and in particular, human) vision and at the same time explore its theoretical foundations and practical applications to machine vision. 

Ben Gurion University, Psychological Computer Laboratory Based On Social Interactions In An Human-Avatar Network Internship, Israel (SIP) 

Identifying and predicting the emergence of psychological and social situations is treated mathematically, focusing on hazards that may arise in this interaction. Emotional conditions of individuals, represented by an Avatar/Bot that reflects each individual’s character, are evaluated during spontaneous interaction among a group of Avatars/Bots, and, may be analyzed, by using machine learning procedures. Our project is focusing on training bots to act as Avatars and allow social interaction. The Intern will have the opportunity to work with teams from Social Sciences and from Moscow University. 

Ben Gurion University,D ata Mining And Cyber Security Summer Course, Israel (SIP)  

BGU is a leading multi-disciplinary research University in the Southern part of Israel, known for its' scientific innovation, cross-disciplinary and applied research. The Summer course will cover selected relevant topics in cyber security, while mainly focusing on academic trends and researches. In addition, the students will be introduced to different machine learning methods and their application in security problems such as intrusion and malware detection, detection of DNS attacks, data leakage and data misuse detection, authentication, using deep learning, protecting privacy in social networks, alert correlation, forensics, and fraud detection.  Students with backgrounds in Computer Sciences and/or Software and Information Systems are welcome.  

CERN, Particle Accelerator Development Internship, Switzerland (SIP)  

Oxford Physics is a globally-leading physics department whose faculty lead major projects at CERN, the European Centre for Particle Physics. The intern will work as part of the Oxford team based at CERN on advanced experimental and simulation studies using the CERN Linear Electron Accelerator for R&D (CLEAR). CLEAR is a test-facility prototype addressing R&D issues for a next-generation high-energy subatomic collider facility at CERN beyond the Large Hadron Collider.  

We are looking primarily for a 3rd-year physics undergraduate who is highly motivated, has excellent team-player skills, a strong analytic background and, ideally, experience of working with experimental hardware systems and/or computer simulations. A knowledge of, and interest in, particle physics would be a strong advantage.
