End of year message from the Careers Service Director

2021 has been another year of change, but compared with last year we do seem (pace omicron variant) to be moving back to a more normal situation. Tutorials, supervisions, careers programmes, and meetings with recruiters are all moving back to face to face and we all hope this will continue through 2022.

As you head into the winter vacation, whether in Oxford or home with family, you may find time to consider your career post-Oxford. We’ve seen, post-pandemic, that many people are seriously reviewing their career plan including searching for more meaningful work, roles which are more sustainable, and their “work:life” balance.

At the Careers Service, we have tools to help you work through these issues, and we have a hugely wide range of activities and events covering publishing, teaching, consulting, further study, charities, and so many more. Why not start now?

Here are some suggestions:

• Read the 2022 Oxford Guide to Careers
• Read all the job search and application advice and polish up your CV
• Book a 1:1 with a careers adviser 
• Use the free Career Weaver web-based app to define your transferable skills, values and interests so you can then find the industries and jobs that you’d like
• Apply for 'Insight to…' programmes and read many career briefings on the Careers Service website to learn about industries
• Apply for a place on the Oxford Strategy Consultancy programme
• Set up some searches on CareerConnect – Oxford’s jobs board
• Wait for the Careers Service Summer Internship Programme to open in January
