Previous experience
Abby’s research used geophysical methods to study the extent of volcanism associated with the initial rifting of the North Atlantic. Following post-doctoral work at Cambridge, Abby taught GCSE Science and Physics and Geology A levels in a Leicester secondary school before moving into careers work at Oxford.
With a particular focus on science and education, she regularly contributes to outreach activities for the University. Abby co-manages the Insight into Teaching programme for Oxford students and leads on a suite of Ignite programmes aimed to develop career confidence among school pupils. She chairs a national advisory group on Teaching and Related Professions, and is a contributing author to publications on engineering, education and academic careers.
Colleges & departments
Abby works with the Departments of Physics, Earth Sciences, Materials Science and Education and with the School of Geography and the Environment. She is the link adviser for St Edmund Hall and St Cross College.
